Is a Car Wrap Better Than Paint?
A car wrap is a novel method of both protecting a vehicle’s paintwork and changing the look of the car. Wraps come in various finishes, can be any color, the pattern of your choice, or even make the car look like it’s covered in soft velvet!
But is it better than paint? Now, that’s a question.
Read on as we put paint and car wraps head-to-head…

From plain to exotic: car wrap designs are as wild as your imagination
Car wraps can be anything you want them to be. Because they’re applied over the paintwork of a vehicle, obscuring whatever’s below, it’s the easiest way to both protect the factory paint and give your car a complete makeover.
Fancy your ride in a different color? Boom! A wrap is just the job. What about changing the finish of the car from gloss to matte (or vice versa)? A wrap is the simplest and most cost-effective way to do this.
What about adding custom logos, sponsorship details, or race colors? A car wrap gives you the complete freedom to design anything that you like, from a subtle color change to the wildest pattern your imagination can think of. One of the latest trends of the rich and famous is a velvet wrap. Even though this gives the illusion of the car being covered in soft luxury, you still wash and look after it in exactly the same way as normal.
Car wraps vs. paint
OK, so let’s get down to the big question: Is a car wrap better than paint. To determine the answer, we think it’s necessary to consider the following:
- A car wrap is applied over paint, not onto bare metal. Therefore, a wrap needs to have paint on the vehicle before it can be used.
- The paintwork of a car will, however much you clean and wax it, deteriorate over time. This is caused by many factors, including damage from physical objects, UV rays, bird droppings, acid rain, and more. This causes colors to fade and scratches to become visible. If left for long enough, the paintwork will deteriorate so much that it will peel.
- A wrap is also subjected to the elements. However, because of the material it’s made from, it can self-heal to a certain extent. Plus, once it gets to the end of its lifespan, it can simply be removed.
- It’s far cheaper to change a car wrap than it is to carry out a new paint job on a vehicle.
So does that make a wrap better than paint? We have to say, we don’t think it’s an even comparison. It’s rather like trying to compare apples with oranges—both are fit for their purpose but different products entirely.

If pushed to answer, we’d have to say that a car wrap is better than deciding to have a car resprayed. That’s because it’s a) less expensive, b) can be changed again at any time, and c) also protects the paintwork beneath it.
This means that you can, if you so wish, change the look of your ride as often as you change your wardrobe. Keeping up with the latest car trend has never been so simple. So yes, in our humble opinion, perhaps a car wrap is better than paint—at least on some level.
