If the film is properly applied to a fully cured painted vehicle, it can be removed, usually in one piece without doing any damage to painted surfaces.
Once installed, refrain from washing the vehicle for at least 48 hours. We suggest you keep the vehicle in the sun to help cure and dry the protective film. Washing after that time presents no problem, but be careful if using a pressure washer along leading edges of film. When waxing the vehicle, some wax may build up along the film edges. This wax build up can easily be removed with a soft cloth or swab.
Yes, we suggest keeping it polished, but not absolutely necessary. Keeping the material waxed or polished helps prevent road debris from adhering to its surface (i.e.: bugs and tar). It makes clean up a snap! Plexus polish is the best to use.
No, it resists yellowing because the film is constructed of thermoplastic urethane, a tough, conformable material that is covered by a clear coat layer. The film contains UV protection to counteract harmful ultraviolet rays that can cause yellowing.
Most installations take between four to six hours in duration.
The film is 99.5% clear.
3M paint protection is approximately 8 mils in thickness for painted surfaces.
3M Paint Protection Film was designed during Desert Storm to protect helicopter and airplane propellers from the abuses of the harsh sands. The technology eventually carried over into paint protection for government vehicles, and then into private industry.
No. The material contains UV inhibitors to prevent the film from reacting to the suns rays, but won’t keep them from passing through. The paint under the film will remain perfect. It is up to the owner to maintain the rest.
A slight line is slightly visible where the shield stops. You have four alternatives to that line –
5 years is the expected lifespan. The product is warranted for 5 years.
Yes. The material was originally designed from 3M to stop chips on airplane propellers, so it is much easier to protect your vehicles paint than a propeller moving at nearly the speed of sound.
