Do you haunt Miami car shows, admiring classic car restorations inside and out?

Vintage-and-Muscle-Car-Restoration-Shops-in-Miami

Find the best restoration ships in or near Miami.

If so, then count yourself among South Florida’s most fervent car restoration fans; those who can tell the difference between a supercharger and turbocharger by sound; those who take pride in making sure that everything down to the wheels, upholstery and radio knobs of their classic cars are as true to the original as they can be.

How to Find a Car Restoration Shop Near You

So how do you go about finding the restoration company that’s best for your prized vehicle?

“Talk to other people at car shows,” says Gary Stone, a self-employed restoration specialist in Pawlet, Vermont, in the magazine Hemmings Muscle Machines. “Pick a car like the one you want to restore, or one that appeals to you. Talk with the owner about the restoration, and find out if any other cars at the show were done by the same restorer.”

Call or visit restoration shops, talk to the owner or manager, and determine whether they have the experience you need. Find out if the cars are all kept indoors while they are being worked on, and ask for references from previous customers of the restoration shop.

Best Car Restoration Shops in Miami

Here are a few of the Miami area’s many established restoration shops to get you started on the journey of transforming your car from simply old to absolutely classic.

Auto Technik Vintage

Milton Gusmao had decades of experience in car restoration and a love for antique cars when he founded Auto Technik in 1993. The gallery on the shop’s website includes cars Austin Healey, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Jaguar and Bentley. He is a member of – and his work has been recognized by – the Antique Automobile Club of America.

JC. Antique Restoration

In business since 1997, JC. Auto Restoration does color restoration, frame alignment, custom painting, and welding services, and guarantees its work for 20+ years. The business is family-owned, and likes to say that it treats its customers like family, too.

Mr. Classik Motorsports

Mr. Classik was first an internet-based vintage auto parts company, founded in 2000. It later added restoration and service, and now takes care of classic American, Asian and European vehicles. Among the cars showcased in its gallery are Porsches, Continentals, Mustangs and a bright gold classic Corvette.

Trans Am Specialties

The company restores Camaros and other vehicles, but it specializes in Pontiac Trans Am restorations. And the reason why is clear: There’s a worshipful Trans Am history on the website’s “About us” page, sliding Trans Am history in next to other American icons like Elvis Presley, “Star Wars” and President Jimmy Carter. Its restorations page is full of completed jobs with details about what each car needed to return to its original glory.

Vantage Motor Works

The company calls restoration “an art form,” and the photos on its site are a gallery of luxuriously restored Rolls Royce’s and Bentleys. It’s clearly doing something right; its restorations have taken Best in Class, Second Place, Third Place and People’s Choice and Most Sensitive Restoration awards at competitions from Boca Raton to Pebble Beach to Italy.

Make It Happen Automotive

In business since 1977, the company expanded in 2009 to a new high-tech auto body shop. It takes pride in its 15,000-square-foot facility, its paint lab, spray booth, high-tech measuring systems and metal aluminum welders. Its goal? To restore and preserve the original form of a vehicle, as the manufacturer defined it.

Buggods

While your classic bug or VW bus will find its next life here, the company doesn’t restrict itself to Volkswagen restorations. In fact, they list German, English, French, Italian and Japanese automobiles on their site, including Porsche, Triumph, Jaguar, Citroen, Alfa Romeo and Maserati. Buggods has been a local favorite since 2001.

  • Website: http://www.buggods.com/
  • Phone: (754) 244-9801
  • Address: 5740 Sheridan St, Hollywood, FL 33021 (23 miles from Miami)

Graveyard Classics

The company focuses on keeping classic cars out of the graveyard, specifically mentioning antique, muscle and classic cars and trucks. “Our staff has over 200 years combined experience,” the website says. “We can repair and paint anything from horse carriages to dragsters.”

Fabulous Restorations

The shop specializes in Corvette restoration, but isn’t limited to this; the gallery shows a variety of vehicles. The website goes into detail on several of the company’s most prized restorations, like the 1968 Corvette L88 #6 Owens Corning Race Car, Tony DeLorenzo’s, “Hot Commodity,” showcased on its home page.

The Creative Workshop

Located in an 80-year-old, 10,000-square-foot historic building, The Creative Workshop offers expertise in numerous eras, styles and nationalities of cars. They’ve even had cars shipped to them from around the world. “As craftsmen and historians, our goal is to produce results that are as functional and correct as they are beautiful.”

Tips for Showing Your Ride at a Car Show

First and foremost, make sure your ride meets the requirements for the show you’re interested in showing at. There are shows for muscle cars, import cars, exotic customs cars, and more, which means you won’t be short of options for an auto show that puts your car in the best light. Once you find a car show that’s the right fit for your ride, keep these tips in mind to give yourself a better chance at winning an award.

  • Get Your Car CRAZY Clean  You can’t win a prize with a dirty car. Go above and beyond in the days before the show, and pay attention to the details. Start with the rims and engine compartment—the places on the car most likely to get smudged or dirty. Polish the undercarriage, the surface of the car, and get the windows sparkling. Don’t forget the tires, which should have new tread and clean rims and wheel wells. Also, make sure you perform a deep interior clean since the judges will inspect the inside of your car as well.
  • Keep Rust at Bay For Florida residents and anyone living along the coast, battling rust is a continual struggle, but for those hoping to show their car at an auto show, winning that battle becomes more important. Prevention is the best medicine when it comes to rust, so keep an eye on the engine, wheel wells, and any areas of exposed metal on your car. Dirty cars don’t win awards, and neither do “rust buckets.”
  • Protect Your Car’s Paint and Finish How your car’s paint looks and shines can have a big impact on how well it does in the car show. One of the best ways you can keep your car’s factory or custom paint job looking great is with paint protection film or a clear vinyl car wrap. If you plan to keep your car’s paint exposed to the elements, make sure you bring a few touch-up tools with you to the car show to buff out or hide any small scratches, swirls, or scuff marks you find before the judges walk by.
  • Have Someone Else Drive If you have a rare collector car, consider hiring a covered automotive transportation company to get your vehicle to the auto show. There are a large number of hazards you face on the open road every day, including flying rocks, inattentive motorist, and inclement weather, but you shouldn’t risk exposing your vehicle to any of them on the day of the show—especially considering all of the hours you’ve spent getting your ride into show condition.
  • Share Your Car’s Story If you restored a junkyard find into a Best of Show caliber vehicle, bring a photo album along and keep it inside the vehicle for evidence of your hard work. It might not help you win any awards, but it will certainly create some buzz about your vehicle and help judges, attendees, and fellow presenters give you the credit you deserve.

If you have a car show worthy ride, Auto Super Shield can help you keep it looking great with paint protection film and luxury vinyl car wraps. We also offer carbon fiber, matte, and mirrored chrome wraps if you want to give your ride an unforgettable customized look that will have judges and attendees turning heads. Self-healing paint protection film. Don’t worry about the scratches anymore!

Your car can be protected from environmental elements, stone chips, bugs, and abrasions by self-healing paint protection film.

Your car can be protected from environmental elements, stone chips, bugs, and abrasions by self-healing paint protection film.

If you’ve ever gotten a scratch on your car, you understand how expensive it can be to be repaired – not only to your wallet, but your pride.  To most, a car is more than just a piece of metal to get from place A to B, and it being scratched is something that must be dealt with properly.  Scratches are something professional auto body technicians can fix well and have your car back to normal, but what if you never had to worry about a scratch again?

Not only this, but what if you could have the paint look as good as the day you bought it, years down the road?

Self-healing paint protection film is now available to protect your car’s painted surfaces from scratches and keep the paint on your car as beautiful as the day you bought it.  These films use the same idea as putting a screen protector on your phone.  This is better than the black leather auto bras because these films can be used almost anywhere on your vehicle: mirrors, door edges, rear bumper, rocker panels, and more.  Yet another benefit to using this protection film is that it doesn’t alter the look of your car, a feature auto bras definitely lack, along with its other downfalls in comparison to paint protection film.

Your car can be protected from environmental elements, stone chips, bugs, and abrasions by self-healing paint protection film.  Self-healing paint protection film also has ultra-violet inhibitors to prevent it from yellowing on your car’s paint.  It is a tough thermo-plastic urethane that conforms to your car.  To further help the film fit your car perfectly, it is custom cut by a computer.

Along with the possibility of being an eyesore and only covering a small portion of your vehicle, auto bras can actually damage your car’s painted surfaces.  Without any kind of protection, it is hard to keep a car looking brand new.

As hard as you try, unless you simply don’t drive it, you will risk getting your car damaged from the sun, bugs, chips and paint oxidation.

Repairing even a small scratch can be expensive and difficult, and repainting a vehicle to fix sun, bug or other damaging environmental hazards can be even more costly.  Consider not only the initial cost, but the possibility of a new paint job being done incorrectly and decreasing the value of your vehicle.  Also, if a new paint job is done incorrectly, it can prevent your vehicle from looking its best.

If the question is how to extensively protect your vehicle from damaging environmental circumstances and keep it looking brand new, self-healing paint protection film is the answer.

The Three Hottest Concept Cars Being Developed Now

audi

Concept cars are frequently shown at international motor shows and expositions and are a great way for the manufacturers to gauge public interest in the concept. Here is our list of the three hottest concept cars being developed now, that we really want to see hit the road in the near future.

First up is the Audi Crosslane Coupe, a car which has SUV style looks packed into a small three door body. There are two small seats in the back, and a removable carbon fibre roof panel to turn this machine into a convertible.

The body has been designed to be as lightweight as possible while still maintaining body stiffness. The engine is a 3 cylinder 1.5 liter petrol engine, with two electric motors, giving a top speed of 113mph and 0-60 in just under 9 seconds.

It’s highly ecologically friendly, attaining an astonishing 256.8mpg – in these days of sky high gas prices, definitely a good thing.

Next we have the Lexus LF-LC concept, which was shown to massive interest at the North American International Auto Show. It’s a hybrid 2+2 sports coupe, with emphasis on stunning, sleek design and driver comfort and convenience. The running lights are in an “L” shape while the fog lights use a dot matrix pattern. The rear lights have been deliberately designed to echo a jet afterburner! The front grille is an eye-catching 3D mesh.

The car features touch screen controls throughout, including two 12-inch LED displays along with door panel touch controls for windows and air conditioning.

Lexus haven’t yet revealed any official statistics on power or fuel economy, but doubtless the hybrid engine will give great return.

And finally in our list of the 3 hottest concept cars being developed now, we have the Toyota Diji. This astonishing creation may be some way off from production, but this is the type of vehicle we used to dream was awaiting us in the sci-fi future. Toyota has stated that this car is their vision of a future where people are strongly connected “to each other, through their cars”.

The exterior of the car features the possibility of displaying messages, information, or images directly on the vehicle. The interior, too, is a futuristic dreamscape of augmented reality navigation, including a holographic “guide” who can give driving information.

Not only all that, but you can also control it via your Smartphone, and its designed to sync up with other friends locally who have the same technology.

When you add in the amazing and eye catching exterior design lines, you can see why the Toyota Diji is number one on our list of the 3 hottest concept cars being developed now.

These tend to be the kind of shows held by hobbyists and average car enthusiasts that want to share their love of cars with the public. Anyone who has ever had a “dream car” that they would like to own one day will understand the appeal of spending an afternoon leisurely strolling along aisles and aisles of these beautiful vehicles. The majority of local community car shows are of this type.

There are car shows held on the local level by sponsors of larger corporations. These types of events are not only designed to satisfy the public’s desire to see a lot of different makes and models of different cars all in one place, but also to showcase the corporation’s products and accessories, and introduce them to a larger potential customer base. Typical sponsors can include companies that sell products such as motor oil, auto parts, tires, auto insurance, and even car dealers.

If you are looking to attend a local sportscar show in your community, most towns and cities have a listing of upcoming events on their local community webpage, or in the local section of the daily newspapers. You can also check the library’s bulletin boards or with local car dealerships or auto parts stores.

Three Things to Keep in mind:

1. Depending on the size of the show and who the sponsors are, be prepared to have to pay for parking.

2. Remember to wear comfortable shoes, as you will be walking a lot.

3. Most car shows do not allow outside food and drink to be brought into the venue. Come prepared to purchase refreshments from one of the many vendors in attendance.

Make the most of your car show experience. Feel free to ask questions of the participants, as they are almost always willing to share their experiences and knowledge. The most important thing to remember is to have fun and enjoy yourself.

Famous Cars From Famous Movies

It seems like famous cars from famous movies go hand-in-hand. Everyone has a favorite movie that somehow just happens to have a famous car in it. My personal favorite is the 1970 Dodge Charger from the movie “The Fast and The Furious.” This super-charged matte black classic muscle car is a star unto itself. With a 528 cubic-inch Hemi V8, it is enough to get any diehard motorhead’s heart pumping.

For those of us that grew up in the iconic 1980′s, no two cars are more recognizable than the 1981 Delorean DMC-12 from “Back To The Future” and the 1981 Porsche 928 from “Risky Business.” Who among us hasn’t dreamed of climbing in alongside Doc Brown and traveling through time, or riding along with Tom Cruise for the ultimate party-while-the-parents-are-away?

The 1980′s introduced us to the 1980 Lamborghini Countach LP400S in the “Cannonball Run” movies. This sleek black, exotic sports car made legions of new fans in the United States, thanks to this movie series. The V-shaped spoiler over the rear deck made this a car that made a huge statement wherever it was seen.

The 1963 Aston Martin DB5 driven by James Bond in “Goldfinger” came to be viewed by many as the quintessential “spy car.” This car was every little boy’s dream that envisioned growing up to chase down bad guys and always win the girl. With its myriad of special gadgets hand-selected and modified by the enigmatic “Q”, this was one car that could be relied on to get the job done.

Elvis Presley made a lot of movies in his time, but perhaps the one that best showcased his love of fast cars was “Viva Las Vegas.” The 1962 Elva Mk. VI Maserati driven in the movie was actually 2 different cars. The first had to be garaged to fix a seized cam bearing.

Anyone who has kids, or was ever truly a kid themselves, recognizes the 1963 Volkswagen Model 115 Deluxe Sunroof Sedan affectionately known as “Herbie, The Love Bug.” Herbie starred in many movies over the years, always with the familiar #53 emblazoned on the side.

These are just a few examples of great movies that have showcased some pretty terrific cars over the years. I am sure I may have missed someone’s favorite, but this list is enough to show how great movies and great cars are a natural match.
