Yes, I know that it’s apples and oranges, but to me, the INDY 500 is the world’s greatest race. Which by default make La Mans the second greatest auto race in the world. Oh yea, you disagree? well sacra blue to you too, buddy! Any way just because it’s the 2nd greatest race, doesn’t mean that it not fun. As a matter of fact the race can be downright wonderful and interesting, especially if you have, as they say down south “a dog in that fight”.For me it was watching my true hero Phil Hill in an American car, running down the Mulsanne straight flat out through the Kink, before hitting the brakes hard into the hairpin. Or, Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt cruise to an All-American victory in1967, beating the might of Ferrari.This weekend will be the full 24 hours of Le Mans, and thanks to the magic of TV or cable, you can watch it in the comfort of your living room, without the rain at midnight, nor the cold in the morning when your stiff as a board after sleeping in the car, and your mouth feels like the ‘vin ordinar’ was really, really ordinar!
